The Azores
The Portuguese archipelago of the Azores consists of nine volcanic islands located in the Atlantic Ocean between North America and Europe. The warm Gulf Stream guarantees a comfortable climate all year round. The average temperature in January is 15 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius in August. The climate and fertile soil have created exquisite natural
beauty, with an abundance of flowering plants like azaleas, camellia, hibiscus and magnolias, growing like weeds along the roads. The landscape is highly varied, with impressive mountain ranges and deep valleys, an unforgettable natural scenic retreat. Pollution is unknown in the Azores, which, thanks in part to its favourable climate,
is one of the cleanest places in the world. It is also possible to play golf here all year round.

To promote tourism, the local government has co-invested in golf courses on the largest island, Sao Miguel. Another fantastic golf course is located near the American base on Terceira.
